Birds of a Feather DIY Crane Place Card Tutorial

After many requests for origin and sourcing, I give you the Birds of a Feather DIY, place card tutorial.

Where to get that patterned paper: The scroll patterns used in our places cards featured in Ngoc and Brian’s wedding, are a custom-designed scroll stamp.   To order custom clear stamps (ready-mounted on acrylic blocks!!), please contact me!    To get the same effect, just randomly stamp your design all over your paper before cutting them into squares.  Let’s get started!

  1. Measure and cut your paper into squares (4×4 for place cards, 8.5×8.x5 for centerpieces).
  2. Watch the following video. 90% of the tutorial is contained right here.  These shop ladies show you step by step how to fold your crane:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAjzaxr6xcE
  3. Print and cut your place cards into your desired shape and size and insert them.

::Tips::

  • Have your crane turns out nice and neat!  Make sure to cut your paper a square as possible, and line up all your folds to the corners.   Hard, strong creases are needed as you progress through each fold.
  • Because each square starts out so small, consider using a light-weight origami paper.  We used a text-weight paper in the Pool and Leaf colors.  They looked amazing!
  • Give yourself time to field-marshal them all into place on the big day.  Each one is hand-folded and contains slight variations in creasing and folding; so plan plenty of time to set up these little beauties on your escort card table.
  • Another option is to glue each crane onto the center of each place card!  They’ll all line up nicely and sit evenly spaced.
